I am so sorry this happened. And it's the very reason I hate to sell
horses. Poor little Foxi.
Was the purchase contingent on the vet check? Is the buyer paying for the
vet and X-rays? I think if she has paid the veterinarian and the full
purchase price, you're going to have problems charging her for a lease too.
Maybe you should just sit down with her and come to some sort of agreement
as to where you go from here.
When I bought Yrsa, we went back to the old-timey way of doing a
pre-purchase. I suggested and the seller agreed that if she passed her
exam, I would pay the vet and buy the pony. However, if she did not pass,
then she paid the vet and kept her pony. I have always liked that
arrangement.
