I don't think I understand...?  No one is proposing that a person post to a 
soft gait, only to a trot.  If Icelandic's trot, and many do, why not give 
them the same courtesy we give any horse?

I don't think it's up to the horse to have a "posting trot."  I think it's 
up to the rider to post to the horse's trot.  If the horse has a true trot, 
then you should be able to post to it.  Some trots are joggy, with little 
suspension and comfortable enough that you may not need to post, and some 
so-called trots in Icelandic's may be foxtrotty...but if the horse is really 
trotting, one should be able to post.  If you don't want to, that's another 
matter - that's between you and your horse.  (Was that a pun?)
