Well, I will just have to say that if I wanted to post I would ride a
trotting horse.

I don't think I understand...? No one is proposing that a person post to a
soft gait, only to a trot. If Icelandic's trot, and many do, why not give them
the same courtesy we give any horse?

As I said in the orignal post Karen, its like this...I do not enjoy trotting
for various reasons, which is one of the reasons I am attracted to gaited
horses...one of Many. I have only ridden one Icelandic whose trot was the type
of trot that actually really pushed you out of the saddle, so I rode the trot
uphill only, that way he got to trot (especially in his early training when we
trotted a lot). I really did try to sit it and try to post....but I HATE to
post.....if I had to post to ride horses I would not ride any, I would drive a
cart, thats how much I hate it.

All the other Icleandics that I have ridden do have a trot, however it is very
smooth, it is a very gentle lift, that has no air between me and the
saddle....I can handle that, and do enjoy that....So I am giving my horses the
same courtesy I would any other horse....if it is a gentle trot that I can sit
that is comfortable for me and the horse then great, if not, I will only trot
them up hill.

I sold my horse with the big trot....not for that reason, but for other reasons
as his tolt is very nice as well as his canter which we both enjoyed a lot.

Of course I never thought or suggested that anyone post a soft gait, that would
be ludicrous!

I have ridden many TWH that did not trot under saddle...even uphill. And
really I do not mind a 3 gaited horse that has a soft gait!

Its one of the reasons I like these guys, most of the ones I have ridden have a
much more gentle trot than the QH or Appys that I have ridden....
