i tried to install firefox but it did not work. nor did opera. These browsers got installed but somehow did not connect to internet.
I I then tried installing debian through CD(earlier i was trying through pendrive). it worked. My PC is now working fine with debian. Thanks for all the help. just one more issue: i was trying to have a network between my laptop (ubuntu 11.10) and desktop (debian 6.0) via belkin wireless router. dhcp server and openssh are installed in both. internet works on both through the router. /etc/network/interfaces for both reads auto lo iface lo inet loopback auto eth0 iface eth0 inet dhcp both computers can ping the router but cannot ping each other.
