The day Lightwave, SoundForge, and Director get ported to Linux, bye bye
Windows. Actually could add Dreamweaver to that list as well. Very useful
in my profession. Linux IS lacking on the multimedia development front,
and no, Blender is not a replacement for Lightwave, doesnt even try to
come close. Gimp I agree with, latest CVS feature list is set to give
Photoshop 4.0 a run for its money, but (yet another but), some critical
features are lacking (anyone who knows what a Quick Mask or an Unsharp
Mask is, will know what I mean). Sound apps, havent seen anything
worthwhile yet.

Don't get me wrong, I use Linux *quite* extensively, all Perl, Java, C
happens here, on XEmacs. Damn I even created a whole corpo site on nothing
but Gimp, Netscape Composer and XEmacs - the corpos would go red in the
face if they found out.

Linux Multimedia front just needs some more time, and possibly a higher
level of interest from the biggies - a la NewTek, Macromedia, Sonic
Foundry etc would really help

BTW, just tried out something called AnyJ - a Java IDE. Couldnt get the
included JRE to run, looks like the JIT is running well, I'm still on the
wrong JDK, so cant understand whether some of the bugs are due my outdated
version or not. Anyway, it already gets about 9/10 for effort. The IDE is
quite decent. Just need to switch on the emacs bindings (bah no emacs, no
life), and get the damned JRE to run.
