As far as I remember, during LI '99, Indra had talked with a few professors
from JU about having such a seminar in JU. I am not aware of the status of
discussions thereafter, but a Linux seminar would no doubt go a long way in
promoting Linux amongst the uninitiated.

Prateek told us that the techies in LMB would be very interested.Of
course, the same holds true for techies everywhere. However, I think that if
there was one lesson learnt from LI '99 then it was that when you're taking
Linux to the masses, you've got to be very user-friendly, as hard core tech
talk only scares people away further from an OS they are still SCARED (!) to
use. Which is precisely why, I think we've got to plan our presentations
more carefully this time around.

As far as help with projects etc is concerned, I might be short of funda in
a number of areas, but one thing I'm not short on is enthusiasm. I've been
working on network programming in Linux. On my PC, I've been limited to
making client-server connections using loopback, but some programs have been
tested on the Linux network setup in JU and have met with a fair degree of
success (read:no core dumped). So, this is one Linux specific area I might
be able to help out with.

PS:

Prateek described me as an ex-LMB . That is correct, partially, since the
first 10 years of my schooling were in St. Xaviers. If we're planning such
presentations in schools also, then of course Prateek is our man to contact
as far as LMB is concerned esp. since he's also been president of the
computer club, which I know for a fact, is now considerably more active than
when I was in school.
I could help out with arrangements in St.Xavier's School , if you so
require.
