X10 Firewire has its own set of signal timing problems and yet (AFAIK)
has minimal web interface and intelligence built into it. Ref (IBM HOme
Director for X10).
It is a separate issue however that the proto desced by me was simple.
Probably, too simple. I guess I can defend my self saying that it was a
proto. But then if you really want to add some complexity to the stuff,
you can. What about ..
o A Neural Net filter which will " teach " the bulb to go on/off/
half dim by matching usage pattern ?
o A telephone based interface instead of an IP conn. based one
where by you can call up and issue commands, with voice
recognition (much like the IVR sugg. Indra)
o A mailbox based interface where you can command the device by
email, not requiring it to be 24 hours online (heh heh in
Indian householdz??)
o A callback facility where by a pre-recorded message is belched
out to you or your pager if the fire sensor (instead of bulb)
or the burglar alarm goes on ?
I guess adding complexity is not too tough ;) Please, please do not be
under the impression taht I am playing a i_know_more_than_thee game.. to
be frank my creativity and fundae wuold not hold much water in front of
many on this list. And moreover, those who know me will vouch, I do not
subscribe to that attitude.
However, what I believe is that prototyping is a good way to
start a game, rather than jumpin headlong (people are free and likely to
differ).
Also, there is no restriction as to the number of projects that ilug can
carry out simultaneously. This is not a DOS list ;)
Best wishes
