Ahhhh cmon guys, havent you heard of X10 Firewire yet?! If we're going
to plug in our collective juices into something, lets try and think up
something new

Yeah....I suppose lighting up electric bulbs to prove a point became passe with
Edison ;-) X10 modules are fairly cheap in the US...

An interesting idea would be to develop an IVR (Interactive Voice Response) int
erface to remote control a server over a dialup line... or perhaps a radio-pagi
ng controlled remote admin module.... not too far-fetched really... have to int
erface a pager to the serial port, the comp can be configured to respond to spe
cific DTMF strings.... I had once written something similar to this on Wiondows
using VB 5.0. The program would make the comp go online on pre-set intervals..
. check my VSNL mailbox, if there was a mail I was waiting for specially, it wi
uyld page me a code 9(again preset to represent a specific sender)... The progr
am was rather rudimentary but it worked fairly well.

It was based on a thing I had accidentally found out abt my service provider Mo
di Page while playing with DTMF freq. (my program was basically a tone-dialer).
..I found that when I dialed into my Voice mail box, if I sent out DTMF tones
instead of leaving a message.... the s/w + h/w at the provider's end converted
the tones into the string of digits that the freq represented AND PAGED ME THAT
STRING along with the standard Caller-ID.

The same thing can also be tried with a CB radio I guess....
