indradg, the owner, has opined against registration as a Society for
individuals using his list.

Since it is necessary to be a legal entity to participate in things like
book fairs, or for collecting money for creation of a OSS Bangla font or
ANY other effort in the real world, I suggest that a seperate Society
be formed to pursue these efforts.

The members of the two groups may be the same set of individuals and
members of the Society may continue to use this list as they have
successfully done so far. indradg has proved himself to be an able list
admin for several years and we can continue to avail of the service that
he has, so graciously, been providing.

This solution has the desireable effect of marrying the advantages of an
unregistered group with those of a registered one without raising the
level of effort needed from any of the unwill/unable members.

I hope to soon post draft "Memorandum of Association" and the "Rules
and Regulations" - the texts that will define objectives, aims etc. for
the Society.

In brief, the primary aims will be to promote the creation, use and
adoption of OSS in govt. education and commerce, promote IT solutions
and services for those who are currently unable to avail of them due to
economic or cultural reasons - sentiments and hopes previously expressed
on ILUG-CAL.

We may try to offer short classes in OSS to members - many of us have
expertise that others lack and we all have deficiencies. These classes
may be a good way to increase membership attendence at meetings.

I need just a few members to express the desire to found this Society.
I am hoping that most of those who volunteered for the book fair will do
so.
