Mine HP cd writer is connected as primary master & I my lilo.conf has
following entry

        image=/boot/vmlinuz
        label=linux
        root=/dev/hda3
        initrd=/boot/initrd.img
        append="quite devfs=mount hdc=ide-scsi"
        vga=788
        read-only

So I think setup is told to talk to my HP writer in IDE_SCSI mode.

But I still get the problem. My system freezs when I generally try to burn a
iso file stored in my hda in to a blank cd.

Though I do not face this problem in RH 7.2 & rh 7.2 , but in RH 7.1 , 8.0 &
MDK 9.0 I face this problem.

I do not face any problem copying from a cd to cd on fly as I have a cd rom
drive (ASUS cd rom) as hdd in my system.
