Ummm, don't take this the wrong way, but this is one of the reasons why I 
am not very fond with ultra friendly distros that hide everything from 
you. ;-)

While *you* may think that scsi-ide isn't being used, you simply need to 
open a terminal window as root, and type "/usr/bin/cdrecord -scanbus" to 
see what is actually happening.

There are no *IDE/ATA* CD-writing tools under Linux.
