Plz. one baby step at a time. :) The way u go i'll stick to wvdial. But honestly, i'd prefer if u'd tell me some other method. U know my problem. I can dip into the purifying pool of scripts, but i don't have time to learn scripting just yet. Promise to setup all sorts of fancy scripts after May. Including multilinking (i hope to have a additional modem by that time) One thing, doesn't gnome have a wvdial frontend ?

additional config for pppd ?
man pppd... period!
4> Sorry, too new to Linux to be able to create symlink on my own.
Plz. if possible, send the commands
link -s `old_path` `new_path`
u mean something like link -s '/dev/ttyS1' /dev/modem' ?

3 parting words of advice --- RTFM, RTFM and RTFM! Its all in there :-)
I'm trying to get into the habit but most of the things ain't penetrating my thick skull
