so basically if i use only GTK .. i don't have access to these *higher level
tasks* .. rite ? That means i have to use the normal c routines to perform
the various tasks.

thanks, I asked this because most Gnome programs that i see use gtk for most
of the widgets and Gnome only for things such as window handling etc. But,
then i found out that Gnome actually does'nt have a big widget set. That is
provided by gtk.
