-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi,
There we are again. In the midst of the annual COMPASS madness. And sadly, there is no better term for what happens each year. I was there when the LUG was at the COMPASS for the first time. And one of the questions that was asked repeatedly was: *What does the LUG get out of COMPASS ?* I don't mean in terms of mileage, branding or crowd. Honestly, Infocomm more than COMPASS would be an ideal platform for the LUG. However, the former is financially unviable while the latter appears to be. I use the phrase *appears to be* since it is actually not a place for the LUG. The ideal place for the LUG would be at universities. The objective being to guide the final year students towards projects around FLOSS that they can take up. Off the top of my head I can list a few: [1] Moodle LMS L10n and adding modules and Indian grading system to it [2] Working on Early Login feature of Fedora [3] Working on Koha L10n [4] Carrying forward development on Planner [5] Participating in L10n work for KDE and GNOME (marketing) [6] Working on streaming media packages with gstreamer and Flumotion Now for any LUG this could be a good charter - for iLUG-Cal the less said the better. It is sad to see a very senior member like PKS instead of providing inputs that lead to an increase in the influence of the LUG puts across ideas that really make the LUG look like a circus act. The LUG is not a circus act. And please get of the moral high horses. To hold regular meetings one does not need password of webportal or the server. One needs enthusiasm and topics and a healthy exchange of technical chit-chat which is related to the number of new people joining in. And please, don't give the excuse of the LISTADMIN giving threats to people. Join the BLUG/PLUG/LUG-Mumbai - you will find lesser tolerance of stupidity. Ignorance can be moulded - stupidity is an attitude issue. And however much someone does for the LUG, stupidity on a repeated basis is not to be tolerated. So please - get your act together or move to another place and another act. It is time that we realised that we are adults in a FLOSS world and not kids in a kindergarten.
