did try to resolve the situation (of wrong perceptions) off the

while respecting each member's prerogative to have/voice opinions, i
need to say these :
1. thanks for the 'senior' member status .. i try to live up to it
2. i try not only to provide 'inputs' but also provide outputs :
a) providing venues (my flat at udita, conference room, compass conf room,
live sessions at compass expos, etc.)
b) encouraging members for those venues which are NOT mine nor arranged by
me, like jpm's house, DLKhanRoad adda (for the records, i strongly
encouraged saugata to pursue with others and he did that too), at the
venues in saltlake, new alipore, or elsewhere too .. all the time
maintaining that my venue(s) were always there if none else could be
arranged .. and .. it IS relevant with all the m.o.n.e.y 'problems' .. ALL
venues that i arrange cost ZERO !
c) i kept requesting for a web site .. and prodded till it happened .. even
if i had to fend off Russ's emails
d) i maintain a rather low profile so that all who want to CAN come forward
and do what they want in all areas
e) on ilug co-ordinator's request, arranged h/w for ilug-cal to enable it to
do things that it wanted to do
f) this happened when Atul was brought to calcutta on compass initiative
(not on ilug-cal's initiative) .. and the 'negotiations' btwn atul and
compass which led to atul's accepting the stalls in lieu of payment for his
talks .. and handing over of those stalls to ilug-cal where both you and
indra were very active too
g) co-ordinating when richard stallman visited calcutta by co-ordinating
with Dr.Nagarjun, Compass, Ilug-cal which led to a meeting with IT Minister
where Ankur Bangla CD was provided by ilug-cal member saugata and where
ilug-cal member sayamindu's first burn CD was autographed by both richard
and manab-da (and also linking up ilug-cal tathagata's with richard for
blessings to the newly weds)
h) refreshing the website by requesting that the access passwords for
managing the sites be provided to other wanting-to-be proactive members
offer to come up for helping keep the website updated (passwords were NEVER
requested for holding meetings, etc .. that i understand perfectly !)
i) proposing to build a Can-Antenna, Cantenna .. and calling it an
ilug-cal's project outcome and naming it Caltenna .. encouraging discussions
(a few went off topic .. but most related to linux-compatible h/w being MADE
and presented to the word
j) trying to get speakers on topics from this group .. which would project
THIS group as a 'resource' .. an idea voiced by indra years ago .. to make
ilug-cal as a 'resource' group for linux users
k) by projecting ilug-cal as a group of people 'knowing' suffieciently well
the ropes of things linuxy .. h/w, s/w, anyware
l) by taking interest in making it possible for indians to use linux thru
localised interfaces by working on INPUTTING systems (s/w & h/w) for
entering the indian language character set thru touch screens, keyboards,
mouse .. cross platform
m) by providing another angle of view .. apart from windows vs. linux .. and
going the stallman way of promoting freedom .. even if not free-of-cost ..
it is obvious that the world is going the linux way .. and " I " didn't make
it happen .. it happened .. i just see it happening .. even laptops come
with pre-installed linux nowadays (non ibm laptops too)
n) in all these initiatives/approaches .. i am not there in 'control' .. or
as a 'beneficiary' .. or as a 'luminarie' .. or for seeking 'name or fame'
3) it is WRONG to call this discussion as a 'cicus act' ! i don't see it so
as yet .. and to say such things does bring 'shame-on-us' .. so please
desist from sawing the branch on which we all are sitting .. remember that
what you say is seen on GMANE too .. if you continue to feel so .. send me
an email off list .. and we can deliberate till we reach somewhere

there is no 'high horse' .. neither moral .. nor otherwise .. let me repeat
.. THIS commenting is visible on GMANE too ! .. i can and will deliberate
and clarify and justify and answer and do everything to clear up the
perception .. but i never ever have been, nor want to be on any 'high' or
'control' or personally motivated position either .. avoid airing such
'suggestions' a searchable/visible forum
(i would be right to fire a salvo BACK for such a directive .. but desisting
IS more right)
i do suggest putting an end to this severly [OT] thread here .. and do
humbly suggest to continue with this off-list
