I think that's just a little bit uncharitable (wrong choice of words? :-) ) to the members of the LUG. I'm sure, in a LUG meeting, Linux is at the top of their minds. If a little contribution is required, people will happily do so. > Theks are smaller in scale, typically involving people who use and want > to use Linux in a particular Locality, Like the Madhyamgram GLT. > Tyically what we'd be looking at is maybe having a Golpark Thek at maybe > Sharmaji's place with people living in an around Golpark, Gariahat and > Ballygunge attending. There are a couple of problems here: a)Participation in LUG (and even on this list) is abyssmally low. Will there be enough participation in the theks, or will it be even lesser than in the LUG? b)There are perhaps a few people on the list with a really good insight into Linux. How would the theks get the benefit of their expertise? I feel that given the above points, having regular LUG meetings is perhaps more important. I certainly don't mean to say theks don't make sense and if some thek becomes very active and has a large participation, that is a good enough meeting ground for Linux users (than a largely non-functioning LUG as we have now).
