You have mentioned below that you have heard repeated discussions of this issue before this. So "Why now?" does not arise. As to "Why": We need to consider why this topic has been raised so many times. We can turn a blind eye to the issues or we can talk about it. If the discussion is held, by all means let's hear everyone's views. Folks who are out of Kolkata but interested, can dial in. > Over the period of time I have been with the LUG, there have been > repeated discussions on forming the LUG-Cal as a registered body. But starting off with a premise of forming a LUG-Bengal would > basically be forking the LUG-Cal (again...) .... Addressing of issues is what this is all about. And I'm sure we'll all keep in mind the dangers implicit in your sentence above. These discussion are not about forking LUG-Cal, these are about making LUG-Cal more effective. As far as the registration of LUG-Cal is concerned, I think there are clear benefits to it. Let's hope the issues which arise can be adequately addressed in the meeting. >...and probably a redundant > exercise aimed at satisfying one's ego and nothing to do with the > excellent TLDP links you quoted. These are needless aspersions and have no place in the discussion IMHO. The immediate topic under discussion is finalizing a meeting place and time, and let's get around to settling on that.
