Before you delete your files, home directory etc., try the following:
1. Right click any panel
2. From 'Properties', you can change the orientation (align to any
screen edge)
3. Right click any panel and select 'add to panel'
4. Try selecting 'Menu bar' or 'Main menu' and add it to the panel. If
it works, you'll get your panel menu system back.
5. Similarly, add 'Window list' for the box that displays open windows
6. You can also try adding 'notification area', 'workspace selector' etc.
