The tone of this discussion is becoming painful now. I have absolutely no idea of the chronology of events. So bear me out.
Lets get one thing clear: Say, before the project was started, out of enthusiasm nobody bothered to ask the sponsors if there is anything that they wanted in return (most *commercial* sponsors do want some visibility - those who want to sneer are this fact can go ... it). And suppose during project launch, the sponsors, ... seeing that nobody has bothered to discuss this issue .. finally break the topic, and ask for a small token of thanks by way of a link at the bottom of the site (which is, to a large extent, an industry norm). There are two ways the volunteers can react: a) With dismay and repulsiveness crying out that this is contrary to their values or why such a thing was not talked about in the beginning. (*Both* the sides have equal responsibility for talking this point out *before* the activity). b) Calmly discussing things out - resulting in either accepting the condition, or , citing a policy that forbids such a condition. (The sponsor might assume that this condition is not a problem since you have still been giving visibility on the LUG site to sponsors who has helped us *years* back). In any case, shouting from the rooftop that this is not done, *simply* because it was not discussed before, is childish to say the least. We made a mistake (by not discussing the issue earlier), lets move on: 1. Either we make a LUG policy not to give visibility to sponsors for their contributions. or, 2. We add the link and move on. Man, we have lots to do in this site. I have been looking forward to this site for so long, and I hate to see it fall apart due to petty ego problems. :( - Sandip -- Sandip Bhattacharya * Puroga Technologies * [EMAIL PROTECTED] Work: http://www.puroga.com * Home/Blog: http://www.sandipb.net/blog PGP/GPG Signature: 51A4 6C57 4BC6 8C82 6A65 AE78 B1A1 2280 A129 0FF3 _______________________________________________ ilugd mailinglist -- [email protected] http://frodo.hserus.net/mailman/listinfo/ilugd Archives at: http://news.gmane.org/gmane.user-groups.linux.delhi http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/
