Support is always there in opensource world. You don't really need to install on their machines, because they have UNIX in their course and I believe if they cannot install an OS[atleast by reading a manual], they are nowhere eligible to teach students. Only thing they lack is will, or rather they are too lazy to check what Linux has to offer. We can definitely tell them about these things with in a seminar.
