i'd suggest that we should give them a flavour of linux . Knoppix can help in that. you can do C programming and every thing else and if one finds it better then they'll take the pains to install linux (dual boot) also. Resources are never a problem if one wants to learns. these days all colleges are having good internet connections they can just download the iso images Sandeep Just giving them CDs, installing them and supporting for few of months would not be useful. I've already tried it when I was in college, but the Principals and HODs are just not interested. In India where most software is available on contacts from classifieds in the daily newspaper, cost would not be a factor that can be targeted the ground reality is that most of them shy away because they are not familiar with the environment. some do not even know it exists or what it is..! it is the comfort level that has to be matched We need to educate ppl about what UNIX / Linux is and how effective it is compared to the environment they are currently in. The best way is to start from home.. teach friends and family about it.
