Hi ,
You need to install alsa and alsa tools .
Alsa supports most of the modern cards .
Try apt-get install alsa .
After insatlling alsa and alsa tools ,try alsaconf in terminal and
follow the
instructions. This will search for the sound card
and update the modprobe.conf file with your sound card deatils .
Also try set the volume level using alsamixer after using alsaconf.
