Thanks for the file. I did download it successfully and have installed it on her computer.
You are correct as to how to check if one has the update. I initially checked the ROM and it said July 21, 1998. If the update is installed then the ROM will read August 28 1998 or later. There is one note of caution regarding this update and that it must be installed only on System 8.1. If one installs it on System 8.5 and higher it will cause the system to refuse to boot. <http://www.iomega.com/support/documents/10415.html> <http://www.iomega.com/support/documents/10413.html> <http://www.mirrors.ausmac.net/ftp/Driver-SW/NewerTechnology/www.newertech.c om/support/faq/usb.html> It also may be wise to delete the iMac Update 1.0 installer itself if it's anywhere on the hardrive before installing a new OS over top of 8.1. (so there's no inadvertant launching of this installer) I of course want to thank you profusely for your assistance. The lady for whom I am doing this work is absolutely delighted (and relieved) that she can now hook up a printer to her iMac. She was very depressed when I told her that the iMac she saved and scrimped for is useless for USB printing because it is a Revison A, and according to the information I'm getting, cannot connect to a USB printer reliably as it is. <http://www.palomar.com/go/imacusb> But you have come to the rescue! I also should add that your efforts will help a worthy cause. Her primary reason for getting an iMac is so that she could do research on the internet for the Canadian Diabetes Association. She then wanted to get a printer so that she could produce printing masters for literature to be handed out to people who need support and informational literature regarding this ailment. She is diabetic herself, and cannot work due to the ailment, but is capable of part-time volunteer work for this association. So again thanks for your efforts.
