Happended to a friend of mine's iMac Rev D 333. I tried everything such as updating the firmare, cleaning with lens cleaner etc etc. Nothing worked. I finally replaced it with a CDRW. This problem seems to effect the tray-loading iMacs especially the Rev C and Ds :-( Last year several listers had it happen to them too. Also see Apple's discussion forum.
