Amber, My router has a firewall feature, so I don't use a software firewall. When the cable company (ComCrap) was trying to help me get reconnected when I was getting dropped often last year, they tried to ping my computer, but couldn't "see" it. Their ping was getting only as far as the router. In order for them to help me, I had to disconnect the router and connect the 'puter directly to the cable modem. My 2�
