Here is my setup:
The cable feed goes into the cable modem.
The modem is into a Linksys one-port router.
The router is into an ethernet hub.
2 computers, 1 printer and an Airport Base Station are connected to the hub
via ethernet cables.
A third computer has an Airport card so that it can share the modem too.
The reason for the router is, this allows the cable modem connection to be
shared with more than one computer. The router puts up the firewall. The
router is assigned the IP address from the cable company. It then assigns a
DHCP address to each device on the network. I have had as many as 5
computers using the cable connection simultaneously.
