Hello there,
I'm new to this list and I think I need all of your expertise on this
problem. A co-worker of mine has an original rev a imac that she needed some
ram for. I suggested she try ebay where she ended up buying a 256 mb chip. I
installed the chip last week and ever since the computer has been acting
pretty random.

Right after I installed it the system would hang for awhile on startup...
but then eventually boot and act normally. After a week of use the computer
would no longer boot but would hang at the mac happy face. Sometimes it
would give an error message... and sometimes not. The most common message
was an error type 10.

I took the machine back... took out the ram... updated the firmware to ver
1.2... zapped the pram, reset the cuda switch, rebuilt the desktop... ran
techtool... (which reported the ram as being fine)

After doing all of this the computer successfully restarted about 10 times
in a row... and seemed completely stable... I shut it down and thought I had
it figured out. After a day of being shut down I thought I better test it
out before bringing it back to her. I started it up and it went back to
acting the way it had before.

System is 8.5.1
Firmware 1.2

any help would be hugely appreciated!

Thanks
Jesse BC
