For a Quantum, you should be able to remove the jumper between the data and
power connections. If you flip the drive over and look at the bottom of it
between those two other connections by the jumper block it should be labeled
DS. Remove the DS jumper and your drive is a slave. Reinstall the DS jumper
and your drive is master. Make sure it is a master before reinstalling it in
your iMac.

I assume you have data you must keep and can't simply reformat the drive ??
If it won't reformat in a Mac (I had a 10 Gig and a 13 gig from iMacs that I
tried everything to resurrect in my B&W G3 and they wouldn't do anything.
Finally I needed a 10 Gig to sell with a PC and I popped the 10 Gig in the
PC and fdisked (sp?) and formatted it then installed Windows XP Professional
and boom, it worked great !!!

I could probably pull it back out of the PC now and install it in the Mac.
