I don't know your background, but I've been sending email since around 1970 (yes, military and some corps did use it then). If you think working on macs gives you some perspective, you are wrong. The only consensus I see is among 'newbies' (using the 'net since 1993) and AOL<MeToo!> people. Clear communication has always required telling people right up front what the message is about. If people wrote ads the way you people write email, nobody would sell anything.
A survey last night shows: 1. I find endless discussion of this topic on the 'net, with no clear numerical winner. The tone of many bottom posters seems overbearing and self-centered, while carefully thought out answers seem to favor top posting. Just my impression. 2. Of a pseudo-random look at 137 emails from different groups, over 67% used top posting, with a particular usage in 'technical' groups. Check for yourself. Of 17 lists I subscribe to, this is the only one using this much bottom posting. Many people tell off others who use it. My not trimming was to make a point, the fact some don't get it makes me sorry for them. Some will never get it. *** the end of this topic *** On Monday, October 14, 2002, at 03:22 AM, Obi-Wan wrote: > but it won't change the fact that in the general tech and > information age populace, posting a reply at the bottom is considered > the > proper manner of reply. ---------------------------------------- Richard Kleim Graduate Studies Library and Information Science University of South Florida [EMAIL PROTECTED] Using Mac OS X 10.2 Jaguar ----------------------------------------- -- The iMac List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
