Given all of this... there are a few things you can try, but most likely you're not going to be able to catch her in terms of performance. She's running a machine that's from a different generation than yours. Much is made of the MHz Myth and the difference between RISC and CISC processing, but that doesn't apply much in this case. A 400MHz G3 like yours is probably equal to a 700 or 800MHz Pentium in most tasks. Increasing your disk cache may help a hair, but probably won't result in any noticeable difference. I would try upgrading to OS 9.1 or higher. Probably go all the way up to 9.2.2.
