And only 4.4GB can be written per side. I know this since I burned my
first DVD-Rs last week on this QS G4 933 w/ SuperDrive 104 :-)

Yeah that would be the way to go assuming your iMac has FireWire, only 
the Rev A-Ds (-333MHz) do not have built-in FireWire :-( I assume you 
have the Harmoni FireWire upgrade card installed?

BTW I think I just read this weekend that there will be a DVD writer 
released which can burn both DVD-R(W) and DVD+R(W), -R @ 4x and +R @ 2x 
(hehe sorry this reminds me of school ;-)
