Amber,

I too was concerned about installing OS X onto my iMac.  I have too 
many games that run only on OS 9.  I also have three iMovies that I did 
not want to risk losing by installing OS X or by partitioning my 
hard-drive.  My solution was to purchase a firewire external 
hard-drive.  I have installed Jaguar on it and left my internal 
hard-drive alone, which has OS 9 on it.   I can boot to either OS, 
works like a charm.
