This is a slot loading iMac that belongs to an elderly friend. She is
often off island for months at a time and unplugs it. She has hardly
ever used it, but this week she started it up and got the question
mark. I went by today to look at it, and tried to start it from my
Drive10 cd (she can't locate the original system cd's right now:-)
Drive10 doesn't see a hard drive, so I assume that it needs to be
replaced. But, what worries me is that it seems to have some video
problems too...when booting up, the screen pinches in a little on each
side...and it will not shut down, or if it does will not restart
without unplugging it...
Anyone have any ideas...other than a new computer and getting
AppleCare! My theory is that the humid salt air has probably been doing
a job on it since it is little used...

Joan
