If you go up to OS X, make sure it's Jaguar (10.2) or higher - it's much
faster than any of the earlier versions of OS X.  You can always continue to
use OS 9, either in "Classic" mode, or boot up from it.  Once you get used
to where they moved everything to, you'll love it! Check and see if the
software you use now has an OS X version available.
