However, you may find programs and installers that require OS 9, or "Classic", and you should install that first. You really should keep OS 9 somewhere on your drive, whether you use it on a regular basis or not. There are several "Carbon" programs (those which run under either system) that require OS 9 to install, even though the programs themselves can run under OS X.
