>Well, I thought I had the problem licked with trashing the cache,
Apple Menu Options prefs, etc. but it came back. But wait their is
more! It came back when I plugged in my USB hub. For some reason, I'd
unplugged it during the attempts to restart in just MacOS extension
sets. Anyway, I have my scanner, printer, Palm cradle, LS-240
SuperDisk drive and Zip drive connected to the hub which is a powered
hub. I disconnected all but the scanner & printer, and the iMac
shutdown w/o a problem. Same with the cradle added. Added the Zip
drive and the iMac froze on shutdown. Disconnected the Zip &
connected the LS-240, it worked ok. Reconnected the Zip and it froze
again. So it looks like I have to determine if it is a software or
hardware problem with the Zip drive.<
--------------------
I wonder if the Zip, and possibly another device or two, is powered off the buss, and
is drawing enough current to pull down the buss voltage, such that the reduced voltage
is actually showing up on the USB buss at the Mac? This happens frequently with some
buss powered devices (Zips being one) even though the device is designed to run off
the buss. One buss powered device can generally be supported, but two is flirting
with a problem.

Not only shut-down, but start-up problems can occur is such a situation.
