I have exactly this situation with my older Canon LiDE scanner. It runs under classic and 9. If I scan photos I just scan them at the resolution I want then use Photoshop Elements or iPhoto to process them as I wish. The Canonscan toolbox has pretty limited photo processing anyway. After that they open in X. Documents I OCR I always save into a WP program anyway, and all my WP's are X based.
