The system is irrelevant.

If an _application_ can open a particular file type, it doesn't matter 
what system the file was created on, or under what system the 
application is running.  The jpeg file you open on your computer was 
certainly not created on a camera running your computer's operating 
system.  All that's needed is an application that can read the file.  
The same jpeg can be opened on OS-7, OS-9, OS-X, or Windows XP (or any 
other system) as long as there is an application that can open the jpeg 
file, even though it might have been created on a Fuji, Canon, Agfa, 
(or whatever) camera.

We all use .pdf files every day without worrying about what system they 
were created on.  All you need to worry about is whether you have an 
application that can read the .pdf file.  Whether that application is 
Acrobat Reader or Preview doesn't matter.
