Airport Extreme

Hello.  Will a new emac with an airport extreme card be able to connect 
to a 802.11b airport base station (first generation)?  Are they 
compatible?  I was also told that a 802.11b wireless card would not 
work in a new mac computer, correct?  What I'm looking to do is just 
buy a card to connect to my old airport base station.  I don't want to 
buy a new base station.  Thanks in advance.
