It is the buyers of 10.0 and 10.2 who have financed the continued development of OS X. To a certain extent, they have been the guinea pigs, experiencing the problems and giving the feedback that drives the development. Of course Apples lawyers refuse to allow Apple to say 'thank you for your suggestion' for fear that subsequently some other lawyer on contingency, sniffs deep pockets and goes for Apples throat. 'Thank you' is a common courtesy thing. That is why I no longer send suggestions to Apple.
Yes Amber, Apple can charge whatever it likes. It doesn't mean we have to like.
It would be nice to see Apple acknowledge its faithful, the ones who did not desert when times were not so good for them. My first Mac was a Fat Mac, (512k) close to twenty years ago. Macs ever since.
A price of say $69 for Panther for those who have bought two previous OS Xs, or say $99 for those who have one, I think not unreasonable; would help Apple reestablish its street cred with it's following. It would reduce my cost of OS X from $387 to $327; not exactly a 'gift'.

Of course, nobody (including Apple) is forcing you to upgrade and buy Panther - nor any of the other upgrades you paid for in the past.
Why should they offer discounts ? It is not like Jaguar will no longer work
now that Panther is available. You could still continue using your Mac
without Panther and manage just fine.
BTW...I don't understand why you are so interested in buying Panther given
that you obviously have not been impressed by previous upgrades ?
As I said, 10.2, particularly later incantations, have been good. With Panther it looks like OS X is delivering something really good.
