I have tried Linux many times since version 0.99 patch level 13 on a 386sx-16. I always get into that Linux Loop, this won't work, so you have to find this, that won't work, so you have to find that, that won't work 'cause you have to rebuild the kernel, etc. I was just sick of Windows getting in my way when I wanted to get something done, so I started scoping out Macs. Boy am I glad I did! Imagine an OS that is as stable as Linux, but without all the pains in the rear. You can go buy things, hook them up, and they work! On faster machines, if you /have/ to run something for Windows, you can use VirtualPC. You can also boot and install Linux onto a disk image using VirtualPC. The best part, though, is that things work, and they work the way an actual person would think they would, and not the way a stereotypical programmer would think they should.

Enjoy yourself!

Regards,
  JJ

Hi all I am PC user - Windoes/FreeBSD/Linux (occassional). Before I take the jump and buy a new iMac, I want to buy a used iMac and check whether I like it. is it possible to install & run OS X on a 233MHz , 96 MB, 4.2 GB spec machine? If I am happy with it, I might plug in my 40GB internal IDE Western Digital HDD which is supposed to be Mac compatible. Is it possible to do this?

Can I dual boot in a Mac with Linux?

And do we use PC memory for the Mac, or does it have specific
memory cards? I plan to take out by PC 133 128MB RAM and add it
to the MAC.

Lastly are there freeware/shareware for mac like
textpad/notetab/winzip.

Thanks in advance
Keshav
