I cannot download anything from FTP sites on my iMac, I am using 10.2.8 on a
500Mhz slot-loader and have tried with both Safari and IE, I can download
fine from HTP sites, but if I try to download from Epson (for example) their
download link is for an FTP site and I just get the message "setting passive
mode" in the status bar at the bottom (in Safari) and then it times out
after 60 seconds, nothing appears in the download window, if I right click
the link and select "save link to disk" then the file name appears in the
download window, but again it times out without even starting to download.
The same thing happens in IE, I am using a broadband connection (through
Ethernet) and can download from the same sites fine with a PC so the router
must be OK.
Can anyone shed any light on this as I am getting fed up with having to
download to the PC and copy to the iMac.
Both browsers work fine apart from this problem.
Ben.

NB this also happens if I am logged in as 'Root'
