Mary...this is what Applecare directed me to do AFTER I did it from the Disk Utility.
Hmm, interesting. There is an issue whereby Disk Utility can become corrupt itself, so that would be the only time that I know of that repairing permissions from the CD would be advisable.

This is kinda comparable to starting up with extensions off in pre-X. It disables any non-Apple stuff, just in case that's causing the problem. Run for a while in safe and see what happens. Meanwhile I'll think of something else.
Maybe I should give a hint about my next suggestion. It starts with "R" and rhymes with "damn". :-) I think you wanna hope that somebody else here is more inspired.
