Two misconceptions that need correcting:From: Mike Beede <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I think Firewire is around 8 times faster than USB 1.1 (though slower than USB 2).
1. USB 1.1 = 12Mbits/sec., or 1.4MB/sec. Firewire = about 400 Mbits/sec., or about 20MB/sec.
Firewire 400 is roughly 33 times faster than USB 1.1. That's a huge difference. What would take an hour connected via USB 1.1 will take 2 minutes in FW.
2. Firewire 400 is considerably FASTER than USB 2.0.
It's true that USB 2.0's *theoretical* maximum is higher (480Mbit/sec vs. 400 Mbit/sec), but in test after test after test, USB 2 fails to get anywhere near it's max whereas Firewire routinely does, meaning FW beats USB2 time and time again. TechTV's testers found (to their surprise) that FW400 was up to **70 percent** faster than USB2!

And let's not even TALK about FW800, which is twice as fast as FW400 and blows USB2 completely out of the water. Indeed, it's said to be faster than even gigabit Ethernet by quite some margin!
