Of course, you can regain access over the network if you've enabled remote logins. So long as you have decent passwords, there is no reason I can think of *not* to enable this. "Decent" means eight or more characters including at least one digit and one non-alphanumeric character, and nothing from a dictionary. Note that if this is your home system, there's no reason not to hang it up next to the system--you're protecting against people coming in over the network, not against your family (I guess your mileage may vary on that, but in my case I don't worry about it).
