After two months of modem problems and getting nowhere with Apple Tech support, I went to a DSL high speed connection, despite having eight months left on my dial-up contract. Since going to DSL, I've had not a single problem. My dial-up connection is now used strictly with my old PC, which doesn't have any modem problems.
