I didn't read all your responses, so I apologize if someone told you about this already...

I don't think there is anything wrong with your modem. Do you have a global village modem? If so, there is a control panel called Global Village or GlobalFax. It is there that you tell the computer WHICH PORT you are using to connect your device. Other manufacturers may have a similar control panel. RESET the modem there.

No, my main problem was that I had the phone cord plugged into the ethernet plug! (Deep blushing!) I do find that the modem connects at a very low rate but don't know if there is help for that or not.

In a side note. I left an alias of Eudora on the desktop, names XXX's mail. Left a NOTE in writing to double click the icon, then click on Check mail on the upper toolbar, the Mac will dial up and get mail...another fairly good Windows user couldn't get it to work...can't we use Outlook or something??? :o( Not as long as I have a breath IN ME! It isn't hard...is it???? ;o)
