That is what I thought, too. I have an original iMac Rev. B, and a G4 iMac Flat Panel. A straight cable won't work between them; I have to use a crossover cable. The explanation I was given is that BOTH iMacs must have auto-sensing for straight cable to work. I don't know when auto-sensing ethernet was added to the iMacs, in the last G3s or only with the G4s? -- Sincerely, Dennis B. Swaney

Only one of the computers needs the auto-sensing port. I have a 1st-gen FP iMac (15 inch SD 800mhz, Feb 2002), and it doesn't have it. My PowerBook Ti 500 (Jan 2001) does, and I can use either type of cable to string between them. The simple solution may to get a hub or router and use straight cables, as they are cheaper than crossover.
