I went to the Apple Support page and looked up the section on DSL. One thing they suggest to do is a hardware check using the hardware test CD. I have come to believe that my problem may be the ethernet port. I don't have an iMac hardware test CD. I suppose an iBook CD wouldn't work? Is there any way to test the ethernet port without the CD?

On the Apple Support it gives the following instructions for establishing DSL connection:

1. Choose Active Network Ports from the Show pop-up menu .

There is nothing called 'Active Network Ports' in the 'Show' menu. There is something called 'Network Port Configurations' however, which does offer the option of 'Built -in Ethernet'. Is it the same thing?

2. Be sure that the checkbox for "Built-in Ethernet" is selected.
3. Drag Built-in Ethernet to the top of the Port Configurations list to make it the preferred, or primary, network interface.
4. Choose Built-in Ethernet from the Show pop-up menu.

I can't do any of these things because 'Built-in Ethernet' is grayed out.

Thanks again,
Tom
