It is OS 10.2. The power strip was on, and plugged in, but the iMac itself was off. Date is fine.
According to my Missing Manual, it should be set to
Ethernet to hook to DSL. The trouble is, Ethernet is grayed out on the
iMac. The only setting available is Internal Modem. Any ideas?
Have you tried Restarting your Mac? If so, have you tried doing a full Shut Down and then booting it back up? Sometimes I find this works when a quick Restart does not.

Are all your Ethernet cables properly attached? Finally, try shutting the power off for all of your network devices, including the DSL Modem and any Router you may be using. Then, one by one, start up the devices. Power up the DSL Modem and wait a few minutes, then power up the Router (if you are using one) and wait a few minutes. Finally boot up your computers. See if that fixes things.
Nope. Tried all this too. Then tried it all again when I contacted my DSL company. That was a s far as their advice went.
The problem really seems to be the Network settings, which are grayed out so I can't reset them.
